POBNEWS24 Dhaka, Jul 1, 2021: Bangladesh Police on Thursday detained more than 150 people in various places of Dhaka for coming out of home amid restrictions the government imposed to stem the rising cases of novel coronavirus infection.
Police said those who could not show any logical ground for defying the restrictions were detained.
Additional deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Tejgaon division (Mohammadpur zone) Mrityunjoy Dey Sajal said 30 people were detained in the areas fall under the jurisdiction of Tejgaon police station, eight in Tejgaon Industrial police station, 26 in Mohammapur, 18 in Adabar, 43 in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and 42 were held in Hatirjheel police station.
They were detained for coming out of home without any reasons.
Deputy commissioner of DMP’s Mirpur division ASM Mahatabuddin said police raided in various areas of Mirpur including Darus Salam and Pallabi. Forces from six police stations of Mirpur division have been patrolling since the morning.
People came to street violating the restrictions. Some of them claimed they came out to see how the restrictions were going on while some claimed they didn’t know about the restrictions, the police official added.
Mahatabuddin further said those detained were being interrogated and would face punishment through mobile court unless they can show a valid reason for coming out.
