POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Jan 3, 2025 : Bangladesh’s relations with Pakistan have improved. After Sheikh Hasina was ousted from the post of Bangladesh Prime Minister in the face of massive student and public protests and left for India on August 5 last year, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is coming to visit Bangladesh in continuation of this. Meanwhile, the previous tension between the two countries is about to end at the diplomatic level as well.
A source at the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka confirmed the information to Ganashakti on Friday.
According to the information, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will visit Bangladesh sometime in February. The upcoming visit is a landmark step that highlights the warm relations between the two countries after the ouster of the pro-India government in August last year. This is going to be the first visit of a Pakistani Foreign Minister to Bangladesh since 2012.
Ishaq Dar was giving a brief account of the major foreign policy developments and the government’s achievements and future challenges before the journalists. The Pakistani foreign minister also confirmed that Bangladesh’s chief advisor, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has also accepted Pakistan’s invitation to visit Islamabad on a mutually agreed date.
The last Pakistani foreign minister to visit Bangladesh was Hina Rabbani Khar in 2012. She had originally visited Dhaka to invite then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the D-8 summit of the bloc of eight developing Muslim countries. Relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh have been strained since Sheikh Hasina came to power in 2009, when she came to power.
