POBNEWS24, Desk report, Sep 26, 2022 : Pakistan’s Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has announced his resignation. However, he has not yet officially submitted his resignation letter.
Ismail himself brought forward this information in a message given on Twitter on Sunday (September 25). This information was reported by the news agency Reuters.
Pakistan was already facing economic crisis. And the recent devastating floods have exacerbated that crisis. Miftah Ismail became the fifth Pakistani finance minister to resign in less than four years after announcing his resignation. He also announced his resignation plan in a meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
In a message given on Twitter, Miftah Ismail said, I have resigned from the post of finance minister verbally. I will formally resign on reaching Pakistan.
Miftah Ismail and Shehbaz Sharif are currently staying in London and will return to Pakistan early next week.
Pakistan’s economy is constantly going through turbulent times. The country’s current account deficit has widened and rising inflation has put pressure on both households and businesses.
In addition, the recent devastating floods have exacerbated the already existing economic crisis. The floods cost Pakistan an estimated US$30 billion and killed more than 1,500 people.
