POBNEWS24, Dhaka Mar 25, 2025 : Police attacked workers protesting at several garment factories in Bangladesh, including Style Craft Garments, Apparels Plus Eco Limited, TNZ Apparels Limited, and others, during a protest against the workers’ blockade of their labor buildings on Tuesday. President of Revolutionary Student Alliance Dilip Roy was attacked and detained by police while expressing solidarity with the workers’ movement. Bangladesh Student Union condemned and protested the police attack on the workers. At the same time, the student union demanded the immediate unconditional release of President of Revolutionary Student Alliance Dilip Roy.
In a joint statement, the president of the Central Parliament of the Students’ Union, Mahir Shahriar Reza, and the general secretary, Bahauddin Shuvo, condemned and protested the police attack on the protesting workers and the police attack and detention of the president of the Revolutionary Students’ Alliance, Dilip Roy. The leaders said, “For the past week, hundreds of workers from several garment factories including Style Crafts Limited, Apparels Plus Eco Limited, TNZ Apparels Limited have been protesting demanding their dues. During the protest, Ram Prasad Singh Johnny, a worker of Style Crafts Limited, died on March 23, which was a systematic murder. We have not seen any action or statement from the government officials, including the interim government’s labor advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, regarding the trial of Ram Prasad Singh Johnny’s systematic murder and the payment of the workers’ dues. On the contrary, there have been incidents of police attacks on the protesting workers. Despite talking about the politics of responsibility and bargaining, this interim government is also a government that protects the interests of the capitalists. Even after the coup, we have seen workers protesting demanding their dues being shot dead. The police attack on the protesting workers is a manifestation of the oppressive character of the interim government. Bangladesh Chhatra Union and other progressive student organizations have already expressed solidarity with this just movement of the workers. The leaders said that Dilip Roy is one of the leaders of the anti-dictatorship Hasina movement. Although there is talk of a new political settlement, in reality the interim government has taken up arms against the student leaders who led the uprising. We demand the immediate release of Dilip Roy. At the same time, we demand the payment of the arrears of salaries and allowances of the workers and bringing the police members who attacked the workers under the law. It was announced that if the government does not change its oppressive character, the students, workers and the public will jointly organize a fierce movement.
On the other hand, the owners of 12 factories will not be able to go abroad until the salaries and bonuses of the workers are paid. The government has banned the owners of these factories from traveling abroad as they did not pay the salaries and bonuses of the workers within the time set by the government.
