Press conference in Dhaka on allegations of “fascist behavior” against advisor

POBNEWS24 Dhaka Apr 29, 2025 : A group of people have accused Yunus Sarkar’s influential advisor of “fascist behavior” in Muradnagar, Comilla. The press conference was held under the banner of ‘Muradnagar Upazila Sanatan Dharmabalambi Janata’ at Dhaka Reporters Unity in Segunbagicha in the capital on Tuesday. Some Sanatan Dharma people from Muradnagar spoke there.
At the press conference, the father and cousin of Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, advisor to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, were accused of rehabilitating the Awami League. Apart from this, the press conference participants also demanded the resignation of this advisor, accusing him of using the police to torture them. However, advisor Asif Mahmud said that the allegations are completely false and motivated. The followers of a former member of parliament from the area are doing this purposefully.
Introducing himself as a propagandist of the ‘Sarva Dharma Mission’ at the press conference, Dulal Debnath said, ‘The Awami League’s friends who have been carrying out terrorist activities under the leadership of Yusuf Abdullah (former Awami League MP Yusuf Abdullah Harun) for the past 15 years are today trying to be rehabilitated in Muradnagar under the leadership of Advisor Asif Mahmud’s father and brother and they are trying in various ways to tarnish the reputation of Kaikobad (former BNP MP Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad). We want his (Advisor) resignation due to abuse of power.’
Complaining, Dulal Debnath further said, ‘Advisor Asif Bhuiyan’s father sent two people from the Hindu community to my house today to create obstacles so that I could not come to this program. Apart from this, on our way from Muradnagar to Dhaka, we were detained for an hour at the Daudkandi toll plaza in Comilla in the name of checking the vehicle’s documents.’
Muradnagar Upazila Puja Celebration Committee Vice President Deen Dayal Pal read out a written statement at the press conference. He said that former five-time MP Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad appointed volunteers to resolve traffic congestion in Muradnagar Upazila. However, using the police, advisor Asif Mahmud’s father and cousin, Chhatra League leaders and activists beat up the volunteers. Later, these volunteers were handed over to the police. In protest, a protest march was held in front of the police station and mediation with the army and police continued throughout the night that day. However, the police filed a case against the BNP leaders and activists who came to resolve the issue through mediation with the army and police at night, and there was panic in the entire Muradnagar during the holy Eid and Ramadan.
Also present at the press conference were Murad Nagar Union Puja Udjapan Parishad Organizing Secretary Ranjan Roy, Kamalla Devapori Temple Complex Cultural Secretary Biplob Kumar Saha, Nibas Chandra Ghosh, Dayanand Thakur.
When asked for his statement on this matter, Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan told reporters that the allegations are completely false. Commenting that the press conference was held intentionally, he said, “You have seen that a press conference was held before. The information I have is that this is being done in front of some traditional religious leaders who do politics with former MP Kaikobad. Many traditional religious people have been brought to Dhaka in AC buses and each of them has been given a certain amount of money.”
Countering allegations against former BNP MP Kaikobad, Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan said, ‘Rather, Kaikobad is rehabilitating people involved in extortion, drug dealing, sand mining, and illegal activities of soil mining with Jahangir, a recently former MP of the Awami League, and is doing politics with everyone.’ In this context, he further said, ‘I saw in a video that those who once marched for Kaikobad’s hanging are now roaming around with Kaikobad. If you ask the common people of Muradnagar what is the situation in the area? Then they will tell you about the atrocities committed by extortionists and drug dealers.’
