POBNEWS24, Dhaka Jul 4, 2021 : Fazal-e-Khoda, the lyricist of the song ‘Salam Salam Hazar Salam’, died at a hospital in the capital after contracting the coronavirus.
His son Sajib Onassis told POBNEWS24 that he died at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital at 4am on Sunday.
Fazal-e-Khoda was 80 years old. He had been suffering from diabetes for a long time with kidney complications.
Fazal-e-Khoda started his career as a radio-listed lyricist in 1963. He retired as the director of Bangladesh Betar.
The song ‘Salam Salam Hazar Salam’ written by Fazal-e-Khoda and sung by Abdul Jabbar inspired the freedom-loving people of Bengal in 1971.
Besides, ‘In a country where water lilies float in the water of Shaluk Lake’, ‘I don’t know how much love is worth’, ‘Which beauty goes to the pitcher on the shoulder of a jug’ He has written popular songs like ‘One Name is Life’, ‘Thoughts are like my wounded birds, Lutobe in the dust of the path’.\
Besides writing songs, Fazal-e-Khoda was also known as a rhymer and organizer. He is the founder of Shapla Shaluk, a children’s organization. In the seventies, he edited the children’s magazine ‘Shapla Shaluk’.
He has published 10 books of rhymes, 5 books of poetry and a total of 33 books.
Sajeeb Onassis said his father was buried at Rayer Bazar cemetery at 10:00 am on Sunday following health rules. Earlier, his janaza was held at the mosque next to the graveyard.
Fazal-e-Khoda’s wife Mahmuda Sultana is also undergoing treatment at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital after contracting coronavirus.
Wasif-e-Khoda, Onasis-e-Khoda (Sajib Onasis) and Oasis-e-Khoda are their three sons.Among them, Wasif E Khoda is working as an assistant editor of the daily Ittefaq. Both husband and wife have been infected with corona.
This pro-independence poet was very neglected. The pro-independence government did not evaluate him. His song “Salam Salam Hazar Salam in memory of all martyrs” sung by artist Abdul Jabbar still awakens consciousness in the people of the country.
