POBNEWS24, Dhaka June 9, 2024: Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Samant Lal Sen said that the Ministry of Health is going to take major steps to control the price of medicines. If anyone keeps the price of medicine higher than the price set by the government, then punitive action will be taken against them. Apart from this, what the Department of Drug Administration is doing to control the price of drugs will also be monitored. He told these things to reporters at the secretariat on Sunday (June 9) morning.
When asked what is the biggest challenge of the health sector, the health minister said that most of the patients suffering from terminal diseases including cancer come for treatment at the last stage. Due to which the death rate is increasing due to lack of timely treatment.
Dr. Samant Lal Sen said, primary healthcare must be ensured to prevent maternal deaths. At the same time, if the quality of medical services in district and upazila hospitals is increased, common people will not move to Dhaka. As a result, the suffering of the patients who come to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment will be removed.
On the other hand, Fraudulent gangs are making counterfeit medicines worth crores of taka in collaboration with various pharmacies. Motijheel Intelligence Department of Dhaka has arrested 4 people of this gang. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Intelligence Branch (DB) Chief Haroon Or Rashid gave this information at a press conference recenrly.
He said that the gang used to make fake vaccines in the name of foreign companies by taking raw materials from old Dhaka. The cycle was also counterfeiting the drugs, injections that directly save life. And it was being sold in big pharmacies in Dhaka, Comilla, Mymensingh.
Harun Or Rashid also said that those medicines which used raw materials of 10 taka were sold for 4500 taka in the pharmacy. Fake medicines like tetanus and hepatitis were being sold in different pharmacies of Dhaka, Comilla, Mymensingh. Fraudsters caught in the net of the detectives have admitted to colluding with the pharmacy.
