POBNEWS24, Dhaka Aug 10, 2023 : Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh at the moment. As a result, the rains in the country decreased a lot yesterday on Wednesday. Even in this, only one and a half hours of rain caused waterlogging in different areas of Dhaka. However, the Meteorological Department has said that the amount of rainfall in the country may decrease further today on Thursday.

However, rains are likely to increase again from Friday, which may continue till next Monday. After this, the intensity of rainfall may decrease a lot.

Meanwhile, waterlogging and flood situation in Chittagong and hilly districts has also improved due to reduction of river water. The Bangladesh Water Development Board (PAUBO) said that the main rivers (Muhuri, Feni, Halda, Karnaphuli, Sangu and Matamuhuri) in the south-eastern mountain basin are depleting.

This may further improve the flood situation in lower areas of Chittagong and Bandarban districts today.

Mehdi Hasan, assistant engineer of Paubo’s flood forecast and warning center, told Kal Kantha, “The situation in the south-eastern parts of the country will continue to improve as the rains subside and the river water recedes.”

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds are expected over all parts of the country today. However, the rain may be less today than yesterday.

Rain is likely in most parts of Rangpur, Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions today.

Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallick, Meteorologist of Meteorological Department told Kal Kantha, ‘Monsoon is likely to become active again from August 11 (tomorrow) or the next day. Rains may increase again from Friday to Monday (August 11-14). At this time, there is a possibility of heavy rain in some parts of the country. However, since then, the intensity of rainfall may decrease a lot across the country.

Following the continuation of the previous day (Tuesday), the rains in Chittagong and coastal areas decreased a lot yesterday. However, rainfall is still high in this region compared to other parts of the country. The highest rainfall till 6 pm yesterday was at Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar, 98 mm. Apart from this, Kutubdia of Cox’s Bazar received 64 mm, 56 mm in Cox’s Bazar and Rangamati and 45 mm in Patuakhali.

Waterlogging in Dhaka after one and a half hours of rain

The sun was visible in the capital yesterday morning. However, the sky of Dhaka suddenly changed its mood around 4 pm. It rained in torrents, which continued for about an hour and a half. And this caused waterlogging in various roads and alleys of the capital. Office-goers and ordinary people are in trouble due to traffic jams and waterlogging.

Waterlogging has occurred in the roads and alleys of different areas of the capital. Due to rain and waterlogging, severe traffic jams are created on various roads. According to the Meteorological Department, 38 millimeters of rain fell in Dhaka from 3 pm to 6 pm yesterday.
