POBNEWS24, Kolkata Sep 18, 2021 : Women are not at all safe in the BJP-ruled states of India. Even minors are not safe. 77 women are being raped in India every day. Among them are adult women as well as minors.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau, rapes are rampant in five Indian states. Rajasthan ranks first in this. Rajasthan is Congress ruled.
According to the Government of India, there were 5,310 rapes in Rajasthan in 2020.
Then there is BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh. In 2020, there were 2,769 rapes in Uttar Pradesh. The third-ranked state is also BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh.
In 2020, there were 2,339 rapes in Madhya Pradesh. This was followed by Maharashtra, a one-time NDA ally of Shiv Sena. A total of 2,081 rapes took place in Maharashtra during 2020. And in terms of rape cases.
The BJP-ruled state of Assam ranks fifth. In 2020, there were 1,656 rapes in the state. A total of four people were hanged in 2020 for gang-raping and murdering a 23-year-old girl in the Indian capital Delhi in 2012. This brutal incident is known as ‘Nirvaya-kand’. One of the six perpetrators of gang-rape and murder committed suicide in jail in 2013. Another was released in 2015 after being at home for three years as he was a minor at the time of the incident.
In reality, in ‘Nirvaya-kande’, hanging four people on the gallows with the message of severe punishment for heinous crime like rape did not help. This is evident from a recent report by the National Crime Records Bureau. According to the report, 25,496 adult women and 2,755 minors were raped across India in 2020. A 45-year-old criminal recently raped a young woman in Mumbai and inserted an iron rod into the victim’s genitals. Seriously injured, the young woman died within 24 hours of the brutal incident.
The incident is being compared to the brutal ‘Nirbhaya-Kand’ that took place in Delhi in 2012. Meanwhile, despite questions over the law and order situation in Maharashtra, Maharashtra’s ruling Shiv Sena has claimed in an editorial in the party’s paper ‘Saamna’ that ‘Mumbai is the safest place for women in the world.’
In India, the Supreme Court this year ruled that girls are physically weaker than men. That is why we have to ensure the protection of women. The administration also needs to see to it that the rapists are not harassed again in the future. Meanwhile, it is alleged that nothing much has been done.
The National Commission for Women of India (NCWI) has expressed concern that sexual harassment of women is on the rise in Corona. According to the National Commission for Women, the incidence of sexual abuse against women has increased by 46 percent this year. From January to August 2021, 19 thousand 953 complaints of such incidents have been registered. And in 2021, the BJP-ruled state of Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of cases of violence against women in India.
The National Human Rights Commission of India has been raising concerns over the past few years. According to the National Human Rights Commission, sexual abuse of women is a violation of human rights. The right to life, dignity, freedom is being violated. Besides, girls are being subjected to social and gender discrimination. However, the central government of India has decided to set up 1,023 special courts to prevent sexual abuse of women, including rape.
In this regard, the volunteers think, first of all, it is necessary to complete the trial of such crimes quickly. There will be no profit just by forming a court. Because it is seen that the trial of the accused in the rape case has been going on for years. As a result, the number of convicted criminals is much less. A total of 27.7 percent of the accused are being punished for rape.
Although four criminals were hanged after the Nirbhaya massacre in 2012, influential Indian politicians have been accused in some cases of rape and sexual abuse of women in Indian society.
Recently, Lok Janshakti Party MP Prince Raj Paswan has been accused of raping a party worker. The BJP MLA has also been charged with rape. Although the law has been tightened to prevent rape after the ‘Nirvaya incident’, in reality, the trial of rape cases has been delayed. There is no guarantee that 63% of the accused will be convicted as rapists. In reality, now the ‘word of justice cries in silence’!
