POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Jan 29, 2022 : During the first six months of the second fiscal year, Bangladesh recorded a record foreign loan assistance. From July to December of the current (2021-22) fiscal year, this grant has been about 402 crore 53 million dollars. The amount of this money is about 35 thousand crore rupees per dollar. Bangladesh has never received so much foreign loan assistance in the last six months.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is the largest lender among development partners. In terms of money it is 14 thousand 6 crore rupees. This is according to the latest report from the Department of Economic Relations (ERD) under the Ministry of Finance.

Economists believe that this money seems to bring benefits to the country. Keeping the country’s economy strong. Currency flow is increasing. And the government is relieved. Even during the epidemic, there was no financial crisis. You don’t have to take a loan from a bank. But if this loan is not used properly, then it will become a burden for the country.

According to the ERD report, in the first six months of the fiscal year (July-December), development partners pledged ছাড় 439.99 million (৪ 4.40 billion) to Bangladesh. Has given 417 crore 70 lakh dollars. Out of the concessional assistance, 402 crore 52 lakh 60 thousand dollars (34 thousand 618 crore 40 lakh 80 thousand taka) has been received as loan assistance for the project. 15 crore six lakh 60 thousand dollars has been received as a grant. Of this, ৮ 1.74 million was received as food grant and কোটি 14.63 million as project grant. These loans and grants are 39.14 percent higher than the same period of last financial year.

Asked, Zahid Hossain, a former chief economist at the World Bank’s Dhaka office, told Kaler Kanth: This is definitely a good thing. Because at that time the government did not have to face any pressure. With enough money in the hands of the government, it has been able to finance all the projects in the extreme. “But we have to see under what conditions they have taken this loan and whether the loan money is being used properly,” he said. If this money is not used properly, we will be at a loss. Because today or tomorrow, this money but we have to pay. So in order to invest money properly, there is no waste. ‘

Analyzing the data of ERD, it is seen that during July-December of the last fiscal year 2020-21, the donors had given a discount of 300 crore 12 lakh 30 thousand dollars. As a result, foreign loan assistance has increased by 39.14 percent in the last six months. In the fiscal year 2020-21, Bangladesh received a loan assistance of ৭ 6.10 billion from development partners. Earlier, in the fiscal year 2019-20, the highest foreign loan in the history of the country came to Bangladesh. That year, a loan of ৮ 636 million was obtained.

India and Russia release money without commitment: India and Russia had no commitment to help Bangladesh at this time of crisis. However, these two countries have given more than three thousand 634 crore without any commitment. Of this, India paid Tk 472 crore and Russia paid Tk 3,162 crore.
