POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Apr 6, 2022 : Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam said the inauguration of the Padma Bridge was also delayed due to delay in import of some goods from Europe due to Russia-Ukraine war.
He said this in a news briefing on the cabinet meeting at the secretariat on Wednesday.
He said that due to the Russia-Ukraine war, the goods that were supposed to arrive in March could not arrive. So the deadline for opening the Padma Bridge to traffic in June was a bit late.
The cabinet secretary said that is why the Prime Minister said that work is being done quickly to open it for traffic by the end of 2022.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had said that the Padma Bridge would be opened to traffic by the end of this year. The Prime Minister was responding to a question raised at the table of ruling party member Shahiduzzaman Sarkar in Parliament on Wednesday.
Later, Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam disclosed the matter to reporters.
