POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Mar 1, 2022 : The Russian invasion of Ukraine has also provoked mixed reactions on China’s strictly regulated online platforms. Some social media users have praised Russian President Vladimir Putin and described him as “extraordinary.” They see his actions as a positive way to deal with US influence in the world.
One commented, “I support Russia and I stand against the United States.”
Another user wrote that the United States always wants to create chaos in the world.
Despite the strict censorship in China, the general public is giving their opinion. Many have called Russia’s invasion of Ukraine an “irrational aggression.”
Five prominent Chinese academics have written an open letter condemning Russia’s actions. That open letter has been published in Reuters. It says there is a clear aggression in Ukraine. There is a Chinese proverb: You cannot call a deer a horse.
The letter was removed within hours of it being posted on a Chinese social platform.
However, it is difficult to know the exact number of people in China who do not want a conflict in Ukraine. There is no information on the number of such posts being removed from social media due to censorship. Although there were no barriers to US-backed posts, those figures were not made public. The BBC could not immediately be reached for comment.
