Kandahar, Afghanistan’s second-largest city, and Lashkar Gah, another nearby city, were cordoned off on Friday.
On the other hand, the Taliban also laid siege to the western city of Herat. Through this, the Taliban has established control over the capitals of about one-third of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces.
The Taliban has previously claimed control of more than 90 percent of the country.
But Western analysts say the Taliban have taken control of 75 percent of Afghanistan’s territory.
The Taliban have been fighting for days to gain control of key Kandahar, Herat and Lashkar Gah districts in Afghanistan.
Extremists have also intensified attacks in the town of Mazar-i-Sharif. Meanwhile, the government has removed Army Chief General Wali Mohammad Ahmadzai in the face of the Taliban’s rapid advance.
