POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Mar 9, 2022 : Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for safely evacuating nine Bangladeshis from war-torn Ukraine. The Indian news agency ANI said this in a tweet on Wednesday.
The Hindustan Times reported that citizens of various countries were stranded in Ukraine after the Russian invasion. The Indian government took steps to evacuate the Indians safely from there.
Through ‘Operation Ganga’, not only Indians but also citizens of other countries including Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Tunisia have been rescued.
According to the report, since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, India has launched a special mission called ‘Operation Ganga’ to evacuate its citizens. Most of those removed are students. Citizens of Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Tunisia were also evacuated during the rescue operation.
Earlier, a video footage released by the Indian news agency ANI showed a female Pakistani student thanking the Indian government for rescuing her.
India’s foreign ministry says all Indian students have been evacuated from the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sami. Russian forces shelled the city.
The operation, launched late last month, has evacuated 16,000 Indians and citizens of several other countries on special flights.
