POBNEWS24, Dhaka Aug 5, 2023 : President Md. Sahabuddin said, the path, ideals and direction shown by martyred Captain Sheikh Kamal can be a role model for us in the journey to raise the country’s sports arena to international standards.

He said these things in a speech given on the occasion of Sheikh Kamal’s 74th birth anniversary on Saturday (August 5).

On this occasion, he paid deep respect to the memory of the brave freedom fighter Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 74th birth anniversary. He also welcomed the initiative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports to observe the day nationally.

The President said that Martyr Captain Sheikh Kamal is the shining star of the sports world of independent Bangladesh. He has been a pioneer in introducing modern and international standard sports in Bangladesh with the combination of personal wisdom, competence, talent and outstanding organizational skills. He also mentioned that awarding ‘Sheikh Kamal Jatiya Krira Parishad Award 2023’ for meritorious contribution in the field of sports to commemorate Sheikh Kamal is undoubtedly a commendable initiative.

He said, Sheikh Kamal was multi-talented. He was the country’s best sports organizer, sportsman, cultural personality, also very talented as a student. Along with his studies, he cherished and practiced the native culture with all his heart. His contributions in various fields including sports, music, acting, debates, present speeches were immense.

He was a role model for the youth. After returning from the battlefield of the great liberation war, he devoted himself to the goal of building Bangabandhu’s ‘Golden Bengal’. He used to find experts in football, cricket, basketball and hockey from different parts of the country. Sheikh Kamal, possessed of endless vitality, was very modest, humble, unsophisticated, unassuming and good-natured. He mingled easily with common people.

Md. Sahabuddin said, the brave freedom fighter Sheikh Kamal is not among us today. But he left behind his principles, ideals, practices and directions, which undoubtedly guide the way we walk today. He is forever remembered in the sports arena of Bangladesh by establishing the Abahani Sports Circle. And he has become immortal in the world of culture by establishing ‘Spandan Shilpigruna’. I pray for the forgiveness of his departed soul.

President congratulated and congratulated the winners of ‘Sheikh Kamal Jatiya Krira Parishad Award 2023’.
