POBNEWS24, Dhaka, May 16, 2022 : Addressing the critics, the Prime Minister said, “I have a request to go to the village without sitting in the capital and criticizing.” See the real picture of the countryside; You will understand where the change has taken place and how much it has taken place. We have to see that people are enjoying the benefits of our various initiatives.

The Prime Minister gave the directive at the inaugural function (Virtual) of the ‘Second National Conference for Reviewing the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’ here on Monday (May 16) morning.

The Prime Minister took part in a video conference from Ganobhaban at the event organized at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital.

The Prime Minister said, “Many people are criticizing that we are spending a lot on various projects.” They look at the cost. It doesn’t matter how much it costs us, how much it benefits people.

Sheikh Hasina said, “Our goal is to change the destiny of the working people.” We are working to give them a better life. When these projects are completed, we will be able to reach the desired goal. But we need to ensure effective use and prevention of wastage of resources and money. Because, as we know, the Covid-19 war and the Russia-Ukraine war have taken a toll on the world economy.

The Prime Minister said, “I believe that if we all work together, we will be able to achieve the set goals before 2030 and before 2041 to build the hunger-poverty-free and prosperous Bangladesh of the dream of the father of the nation.”

Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladesh has not only adopted SDG as a global development concept, but has also started the process of formulating this global target to suit its own reality which has come to be known as SDG Localization. Under this program, out of 16 targets, 39 indicators have been identified as ‘SDG priority areas’ for Bangladesh. At the same time, considering the reality of each district and upazila, one additional indicator has been fixed.

Highlighting the government’s initiative to ensure housing for the homeless and landless, the Prime Minister said, “By April 2022, we have made 1 lakh 83 thousand 3 homeless families home all over the country.” Also, we have relocated 640 climate refugee families to new homes in Cox’s Bazar; By 2023, a total of 4,409 climate refugee families will get new homes. Sheikh Hasina reiterated her commitment to ensure housing for every citizen of the country.

Planning Minister MA Mannan presided over the conference from the sidelines of Bangabandhu International Conference Center. State Minister for Planning Shamsul Alam spoke as the special guest. Welcoming remarks were made by Juena Aziz, Chief Coordinator, SDG.

“We have been on the path to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals for seven years,” he said. The pace of SDG implementation has slowed down somewhat in the last two years due to the Covid-19 global epidemic. But we are working to the best of our ability, and we will continue to do so. I believe I can achieve.

Sheikh Hasina further said that due to timely provision of incentive package by the government and adherence to proper policy, the post-Corona economy is returning to positive trend. It is difficult to ensure that the SDGs are on track at the right time. However, I believe that it is possible to reach the goal through accurate and innovative work plan and effective monitoring system. In this context, the Second National Conference on the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is very significant.

“I hope that through this conference, the organizations involved in the implementation of SDGs will be able to review their implementation progress and identify implementation issues and find solutions,” he said. The government as well as development partners, NGOs and individuals representing different levels of society are equally involved in our development.

The Prime Minister said, “I believe that if we all work together, we will be able to achieve the goal set before 2030 and build a hunger-poverty-free and prosperous Bangladesh before 2041, the dream of the father of the nation.”
