POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Aug 2 2022 : The Teesta river has increased by flowing upstream at Nilphamari. At 3 o’clock on Monday, the river water flowed 10 cm above the boundary line at the Teesta barrage point. As a result of rising Teesta water, 15 villages of East Chatnai, Paschim Chatnai, Tepakharibari, Khagakharibari, Khalishachapani, Jhunagach Chapani and Gaybari Union of Dimla Upazila have been flooded and nearly two thousand families have become waterlogged. About 200 meters of the dam built by volunteers in Charkharibari village of Tepakhribari union collapsed due to sudden rise in water.
As a result, water has entered the locality and more than one and a half hundred bighas of Amankhet has been submerged under water.
Tepakharibari Union Parishad Chairman Moinul Haque said that the water level of Teesta river has increased again after a break of one month. About 200 meters of the dam built by volunteers in Charkharibari village has been destroyed by the flow of Teesta, the erosion continues. About 700 families of the union have been affected by the sudden downpour. ‘
Abdul Latif Khan, chairman of East Chatnai Union Parishad, said, ‘The water level of Teesta river continues to rise. Around 500 families of Purvachatnai and Jharsinghershwar Char of the union have been affected by the flood. ‘
According to Paubo sources, the river water at Teesta barrage point has been rising and falling since last June 12. On June 17, it crossed the border for the first time. On June 20, there was a maximum of 31 cm of rainfall. Then the water receded and the situation improved. On June 29, it crossed the threshold again and fell below the threshold on June 30.
Sources from Dalia Water Development Board’s flood forecasting and warning center said that at 6 a.m. on Monday, Teesta river water was 52.58 cm, 52.58 m at 9 a.m., 52.58 m at 12 noon and increased to 52.70 m at 3 p.m. Its diameter is 52.60 cm.
