POBNEWS24, Dhaka July 13, 2023 : Due to landslides and heavy rainfall, water is flowing 19 cm above the water line at the Teesta barrage point. The authorities have opened 44 gates of the barrage under control.

Teesta water flow was recorded at 52.34 cm at the barrage point on Thursday (July 13) at 6 am. Which is 19 cm above the danger limit. About 3000 families in five upazilas of Lalmonirhat have become waterlogged.

Earlier on Saturday (July 8), Teesta water flowed 13 cm above the boundary line.

Dalia Water Development Board Executive Engineer Asfauddaula said that at 6 in the morning water is flowing 19 cm above the flood line. In this season the first water is flowing over the maximum danger line.

Teesta water has been rising and falling since the beginning of June. After the first round of low-level floods, the water speed was almost normal, but on Wednesday night, it increased and crossed the danger mark.

It has been found that due to the rise in Teesta water, Dahgram of Patgram, Doani, Fakirpara of Hatibandha, Nij Sheikh Sunder of Saniajan Union, Char of Bagher, Dhubani of Singamari Union, Sindurna, Patikapara, Dauabari, Bhotmari of Kaliganj, Shailmari, Nohali, Char Bairati of Kaliganj, Mahishkhocha of Aditmari upazila, Palashi and Char Khuniyagach of Folimari of Sadar upazila, Rajpur, Gokunda Union are entering the low lying areas along Teesta river. Suffering has been caused by sinking roads.

Zakir Hossain, a UP member of Ward No. 6 of Goddimari Union, said that the Teesta water has been increasing since night and water has entered the houses of Teesta Pare people. As a result, movement is becoming very difficult.

Hatibandhar Sindurna Union Chairman Ariful Islam Arif said that the four wards of this union are located on the banks of Teesta River. After the first round of floods, water is entering the houses of Teesta Char for the second time since last night. The people of Teesta Char have suffered due to this.

Sunil Kumar, executive engineer of Lalmonirhat Water Development Board, said that Teesta water is flowing 19 cm above the water limit. The residents of Teesta Char of Panch Upazila of Lalmonirhat have been warned.
