POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Apr 13, 2022 : Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that the amount of foreign debt of Bangladesh is still far below the risk limit. He directed the persons concerned to maintain the present position of the debt.

The Prime Minister gave these instructions while witnessing presentations on ‘Offshore Tax Amnesty’ and ‘Review of Bangladesh’s macroeconomics in the context of Sri Lanka’s economic crisis’ at Ganobhaban on Tuesday. This was stated in a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Press Wing.

The National Board of Revenue and the Finance Department made presentations on those two issues. Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister Ahmed Kaikaus, Senior Secretary to the Department Abdur Rauf Talukder, Chairman of the National Board of Revenue and Secretary to the Ministry of Finance. Abu Hena said. Rahmatul Munim, Secretary of Economic Relations Department Fatima Yasmin, Secretary of Financial Institutions Department Sheikh Mohammad Salim Ullah were present.

The meeting discussed in detail the causes of the ongoing crisis in Sri Lanka and its response. Various indicators of Bangladesh’s economy are reviewed with other countries in South Asia. The review shows that the economy of Bangladesh is relatively stable in almost all the indices. However, in the context of abnormal rise in prices of fuels, food items, etc. in the international market, emphasis has been laid on the implementation of an integrated monetary policy and monetary policy to control inflation in the domestic market as ‘imported inflation’. Analyzing the various indicators of the economy, it is seen that in the medium and long term, there is no risk in repaying the foreign debt of Bangladesh.

After the meeting with the Prime Minister, Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister Ahmed Kaikaus gave a press briefing. He said the comparison of Bangladesh with Sri Lanka is sad. The situation in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka is different. Bangladesh is far away from Sri Lanka.

The Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister said: How embarrassed will they be that they have been proven wrong? ‘ He said, ‘Almost a decade ago, a trend has been created in Bangladesh – to make a noise. There is nothing more sad than comparing Bangladesh with Sri Lanka today. Bangladesh is far away from Sri Lanka. There is nothing more shameful than comparing Bangladesh with Sri Lanka. ‘

Stating that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has analyzed everything, Kaikaus said, “She has spent three hours reviewing the current situation in Sri Lanka with Bangladesh. He has analyzed every piece of data himself. ‘

The Chief Secretary said, “We have already told the Prime Minister that Bangladesh does not have a chance to become Sri Lanka. ‘
