POBNEWS24, Dhaka Sept 2, 2024 : Under the strict security of army and BGB, the treatment program has started again at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. However, outpatient services are closed. The patients and their relatives who came for treatment have suffered due to this.
Since Monday (September 2) morning, the patient pressure has increased in the emergency department. No one is allowed to enter the hospital without an attendant pass card. Strict security has been created in the entire Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Outpatient Gynecology Department Resident Surgeon Dr. Rajib said, we announced a complete shutdown in connection with the attack on our doctor. Later, emergency department services were launched with assurances of security and arrest of the culprits within 48 hours. However, till our demands are met, the external department will remain closed.
Incidentally, on the morning of August 31, the Bangladesh University of Business Technology (BUBT) student Ahsanul Haque Deepta was accused of death due to the negligence of the doctors at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Later, three doctors of the neurosurgery department were beaten up. The doctors gave an ultimatum to identify the culprits and arrest them after seeing the CCTV footage of the incident.
On the same day, at midnight, the injured from the clash between the two groups from Sipahibagh area of Khilgaon came to Dhaka Medical for treatment. Then another group entered the emergency department of the hospital along with Chapati. At that time, the authorities arrested four people and handed them over to the army.
Later, the patient’s relatives vandalized the one-stop emergency center of the hospital’s emergency department in connection with the death of another patient. Because of this, the doctors stopped the operation of the emergency department due to safety concerns. They went on strike before the expiry of 24 hours of the ultimatum.
Meanwhile, a case was filed in Shahbagh police station in the capital regarding the attack and vandalism on three doctors of the neurosurgery department of the hospital.
