POBNEWS24, Dhaka June 20, 2022 : It rained heavily in Sylhet on Monday morning. The sun did not meet. Although there was less rain on Sunday, the flood situation remained unchanged due to today’s rain. However, the water level of rivers in Sylhet has decreased today as compared to yesterday.
According to the Sylhet Water Development Board (Paubo), according to the latest information at 9 am today, water is flowing over the danger level at the point of Surma river in Sylhet. The danger level at Sylhet point of Surma river is 10.60. The water there is now 11.35.
The water level at Kanaighat Point was 14.8 cm at 6 pm yesterday. According to the calculation at 8 am today, the water level there is 13.90 cm.
Meanwhile, water at Fenchuganj point of Kushiyara river was below the danger level yesterday but today it is flowing at zero point six centimeters above the danger level. The water level at Sherpur Point is below the danger level.
This morning it was seen that the water in different areas of Sylhet city is still. Water has come down from some high places. However, the lowlands are still flooded as before. There is a glass of water from the waist down. In particular, the condition of the suburbs, known as the elite areas of the city, is very bad. Glassy water from the chest in most places in this area. Besides, flood situation is still unchanged in various flood-hit areas including Companiganj, Gowainghat, Jaintapur, Kanaighat, South Surma, Sylhet Sadar, Bishwanath.
According to the district administration, 2 lakh 30 thousand 732 people have taken shelter in 498 shelters in the district. Besides, 31 thousand cattle have been given shelter.
Sylhet Deputy Commissioner. Mojibur Rahman told Prothom Alo that relief is being distributed in flood-hit areas including shelters. However, due to the disconnection of communication, it is not possible to reach relief in different places due to the crisis of watercraft. The number of shelters is being increased.
