POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Dec 7, 2021 : Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Sringla, who is visiting Dhaka, held talks with Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen on Tuesday afternoon.

The meeting between the foreign secretaries of the two neighboring countries started at 12 noon today at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital. An official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave this information in the first light.

Harsh Vardhan Sringla arrived in Dhaka this morning on a two-day visit. He arrived in Dhaka on a special Indian Air Force plane. Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen welcomed him at the airport in Dhaka.

According to the schedule, Harsh Vardhan Sringla will pay a courtesy call on Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen today. Besides, he will have a courtesy call on Minister for Road Transport and Bridges and General Secretary of Awami League Obaidul Quader in the afternoon.

On the second day of the visit, the Indian Foreign Secretary will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday. He will return to Delhi on the same day.

AK Abdul Momen told this correspondent on his mobile phone last night that Indian President Ramnath Kobind would arrive in Dhaka on December 15 to take part in the celebrations of the golden jubilee of independence. The Indian Foreign Secretary is visiting Dhaka as part of preparations for the visit.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement today that a day after the celebration of Friendship Day, the Indian Foreign Secretary will have the opportunity to discuss and review a wide range of issues of cooperation through his visit to Bangladesh. Harsh Vardhan Schringler’s visit will help in the preparations for the visit of Indian President Ramnath Kobind to Dhaka from 15 to 16 December.

Asked about the Indian foreign secretary’s visit, a foreign ministry official said the two countries had agreed on a number of issues in March. But due to the Corona situation, it was not possible to go far. This time in the meeting with the Foreign Secretary, Dhaka will urge to complete the issues quickly. On behalf of Bangladesh, excavation and rehabilitation of Kushiyara river, supply of corona vaccine, trade inequality and other unresolved issues will be discussed.

This is the second visit of Indian Foreign Secretary to Dhaka this year after March 26. At that time, he visited Bangladesh as the traveling companion of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and the golden jubilee of independence.
