POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Dec 15, 2021 : Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that Martyred Intellectuals Day is a scandalous day in the history of Bangladesh. In the last days of the Great War of Liberation, the Pakistani aggressors, the anti-independence forces and their allies killed the Bengali intellectuals to make Bangladesh incompetent. I pay my deep respects to all the martyred freedom fighters including the martyred intellectuals. I pray for the forgiveness and peace of their souls and extend my deepest sympathies to their family members.
He said this in a message given on the occasion of Martyred Intellectuals Day on Tuesday (December 14).
The Prime Minister said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bengali of all time, Father of the Nation, declared independence by organizing the people of the country after a long struggle against 23 years of Pakistani discrimination and exploitation. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib declared the independence of Bangladesh in the early hours of March 26, when the Pakistani aggressors started killing innocent and unarmed Bengalis on the night of March 25, 1971. Responding to the call of the Father of the Nation, the Bengalis jumped into the war of liberation. But a number of fanatical political parties, including Pakistan’s ally Jamaat, took a stand against the liberation war. They formed the Razakar, Al-Badr and Al-Shams forces to support the invading forces and killed, raped, set them on fire and looted.
Sheikh Hasina said on the eve of the victory of the Bengali nation, they brutally killed and disappeared the country’s talented children including academics, journalists, writers, doctors, scientists, lawyers, artists, engineers, philosophers and political thinkers. Among them were Dhaka University teachers Mofazzal Haider Chowdhury, Munir Chowdhury, Anwar Pasha, Shahidullah Kaiser, Ghiyasuddin, Dr. Fazle Rabbi, Abdul Alim Chowdhury, Sirajuddin Hossain, Selina Parveen, Dr. Jyotirmoy Guha Thakurata and many more. The freedom fighters took the worst revenge for the defeat through this planned brutal massacre. The main goal of this massacre was so that Bangladesh could never stand up again.
He further said that this defeated force of the great war of liberation killed the father of the nation on 15th August 1975 along with most of his family members. Through this heinous murder, they started the politics of murder, coup and conspiracy. An indemnity ordinance was issued blocking the trial of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib. Martial law kills democracy. Distorts the glorious history of the War of Independence. Gives birth to militancy and terrorism in the country. Incites communalism. Carries out murder-murder-rape-torture. Muktamana tortured teachers, writers, journalists and politicians. This terrorist-militant group established a reign of militancy, terrorism and terror in the country from 2001 to 2006. They carried out nationwide arson, assassinations and planned sabotage to thwart the January 5, 2014 national elections. They are still conspiring in various ways.
He said the Awami League government, which has been in charge of running the state since 2009, has brought the war criminals who killed intellectuals to justice. Judgment is being executed. The souls of the martyred intellectuals will find peace only through the implementation of these judgments. The country and the nation will be free from stigma. Those who are trying to save these notorious inhumane people will also be judged one day, InshaAllah.
