POBNEWS24, Dhaka June 11, 2024: Lieutenant General Walker-uz-Zaman has been appointed as the next army chief of Bangladesh. He will replace the current army chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed. The appointment of Walker-uz-Zaman will be effective from June 23.
This information was informed in a circular sent by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday (June 11).
According to ISPR, the Chief of General Staff (CGS) Lieutenant General Waqar-uz-Zaman has been promoted to the rank of General from the afternoon of June 23 and has been appointed as the Army Chief for three years from that date.
He will receive emoluments as per the Chiefs of Defense (Recruitment, Pay, Allowances and Other Benefits) Act, 2018, the notification said.
