POBNEWS24, Dhaka, June 16, 2022 : Returning Officer Shahedunnabi Chowdhury has declared Arfanul Haque Rifat the winner of Comilla City Corporation Election (CUSIC). The results were announced privately at the District Shilpakala Academy around 9:30 pm on Wednesday (June 15).
As a result of the private announcement, Arfanul Haque Rifat’s boat got 50,310 votes in 105 centers. On the other hand, independent candidate Monirul Haque Sakkur got 49,098 votes.
The two-time mayor Sakku lost by 343 votes.
The defeated candidate is Monirul Haque Sakku.
The other three candidates Mohammad Nizam Uddin Kaiser got 29,099 votes for horse symbol, Rashedul Islam got 3,040 votes for hand fan and Kamrul Ahsan got 2,329 votes for Babul deer symbol.
Earlier, polling was held in 840 rooms of 105 centers of the city corporation from 8 am. 106 candidates for the post of councilor and 36 candidates for the post of reserved women councilor took part in the election. Two lakh 29 thousand 920 voters exercised their voting right in the election.
There were five mayoral candidates in this election. However, the main battle was between Awami League candidate Arfanul Haque Rifat and former mayor Monirul Haque Sakkur, who was recently expelled from the BNP.
