POBNEWS24, Dhaka, July 27, 2022 : Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, ‘Countries like Bangladesh are bearing the most impact of the war. The prices of daily necessities have gone beyond the affordability of most people. We should all come forward with courage to face this humanitarian crisis. ‘

The 25th anniversary celebration of the D-8 Economic Cooperation International Alliance and the 20th session of the D-8 Foreign Ministers were held on Wednesday (July 27) morning at Hotel Intercontinental in the capital.

In this, the Prime Minister said these things by connecting virtually from his official residence Ganabhaban.

Sheikh Hasina said, ‘When all of us were distressed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine conflict has put the world in new danger. The conflict and subsequent sanctions and counter-sanctions have disrupted the production and supply of food, fertilizers, energy and electricity and other goods. ‘

The prime minister said, ‘Countries like Bangladesh are bearing the brunt of the war. The prices of daily necessities have gone beyond the affordability of most people. We should all come forward with courage to face this humanitarian crisis. ‘

The Prime Minister said, ‘The world is passing through difficult times due to the covid-19 pandemic conflict, food and energy crisis, climate change and natural disasters. Hence the need for stronger multilateral cooperation and global solidarity demands more attention than ever before. ‘

The Prime Minister said, ‘D-8, established 25 years ago, is now ready to meet the goals of economic development through coordination. This has been made possible through political commitment and meaningful collaboration between our public and private sectors. Our immense potential will grow in strength as an economic bloc if properly realised. ‘

Sheikh Hasina said, ‘I am happy to hear that the D-8 countries including Bangladesh, Pakistan, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria and Turkey are finalizing preferential trade agreements. It will help to harmonize the inter-country trade. Remove all barriers and stimulate trade and economic cooperation among member countries. ‘

The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the participation of representatives of various Member State Chambers, businessmen, entrepreneurs in the second D-8 CCI General Session and Business Expo on the sidelines of the Foreign Ministerial Session.
