POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Jan 26, 2022 : Of the 10 projects passed at the ECNEC meeting on Tuesday, five were revision projects. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed frustration over the delay in implementation of development projects in approving these amendment projects.
Planning Minister MA Mannan told reporters at a briefing after a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) at the Ministry of Planning in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar yesterday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined the meeting from Ganobhaban through virtual medium.
Ministers and secretaries were present in the NEC conference room at the time.
Citing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the briefing, the planning minister said, “The project was revised repeatedly. Today, 10 projects were presented at the ECNEC meeting, five of which were revised. The Prime Minister has expressed annoyance that the revised project is coming to the ECNEC meeting again and again.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister said the project needs to be implemented quickly. As the cost of the project increases if it is delayed, the people are also deprived of proper services.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister directed to ensure proper use of fallow land. The planning minister said many lands have fallen in Sylhet region due to various reasons. The Prime Minister has directed that the lands be used.
“I agree with the prime minister,” he said. I will inform the people of Sylhet of his intention. ‘
At the ECNEC meeting, the Prime Minister approved the project ‘Establishment of Urea Formaldehyde-75 Plant’ at a cost of Taka 624 crore. At the time, he said, the private sector would be able to invest in fertilizer production abroad. The fertilizer produced abroad will meet the demand of Bangladesh. Entrepreneurs can use it in foreign countries if they want. This will reduce the gas crisis and increase investment abroad. However, entrepreneurs need to ensure that the country’s interests are protected first.
The planning minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked for construction of elevated expressway at Haor. He has instructed to take all kinds of steps for this.
The planning minister quoted the prime minister as saying that small bridges were needed in Haor. So that the water can circulate properly. There should not be any kind of obstruction in the movement of the boat. Agriculture development will also be done in Sylhet region under the ‘Climate Smart Agriculture and Water Management’ project (CSAWMP). ‘Sylhet Haor came up during the approval of the project.
ECNEC approves 10 projects: ECNEC approved 10 projects at a cost of Tk 4,621.34 crore yesterday. Among the projects, government funding is Tk 3,055.21 crore and foreign aid is Tk 1,056.13 crore.
ECNEC approved projects include: Netrokona-Bishiura-Ishwarganj Road Project (First Amendment), Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Building Construction Project (First Amendment), 18 Regional Passport Office Construction Project (First Amendment), Sheikh Hasina Cantonment Barisal Establishment Project (First Amendment). ), Climate Smart Agriculture and Water Management Project, Agriculture Development Project in Sylhet Region through Modern Technology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park, Gazipur Approach Road Widening and Other Necessary Infrastructure Development Project (Third Amendment), Flood and Riverbank Irrigation Risk Management Project, Urea Formaldehyde-75 (UF-65) Plant Establishment Project, Gopalganj, Sunamganj, Barisal, Rangpur, Jamalpur and Jessore District.
ECNEC meeting was attended by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Agriculture Minister. Abdur Razzak, Minister of Local Government. Tajul Islam, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Health Minister Zahid Malek, State Minister for Planning Shamsul Alam. Besides, concerned ministers and state ministers took part in the meeting.
