POBNEWS24, Dhaka June 25, 2022 : The Padma Bridge will be inaugurated shortly. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reached the Mawa end of the much-desired bridge. He is speaking there. At the beginning of his speech, he expressed his respect and love to the countrymen.
At 9:55 a.m., he arrived at the Mawa rally site by helicopter. He will address the first gathering there. He will unveil the inaugural plaque at the end of his address at the Sudhi rally at the end of Mawa. It will immediately open up endless doors of connection, communication and potential for 21 districts of the south and south-west with the capital Dhaka and other parts of the country.
People have started coming in groups at both ends of the bridge since this morning. The Prime Minister will inaugurate the bridge at the end of Mawa and will cross the bridge by car. Go to the other end. There will be a rally at 12 noon after the unveiling of the plaque. The organizers have said that at least 1 million people will gather there. There has been a downpour of people since this morning. People from different parts of the south are gathering there. People are coming to the rally in T-shirts of different colors, dancing and singing.
Strict security measures have been taken at both Mawar and Jajira today to mark the inauguration of the bridge.
The documentary on the Padma Bridge will be shown for the first time in today’s gathering. Then the speech will start. Three and a half thousand important citizens of the state have been invited to this gathering.
This bridge is 6.15 km long. Jazira from Mawa. The Padma Bridge will connect roads, railways, gas and electricity to the north and south. With the huge work of construction there are connecting roads, rail connections, river governance, rehabilitation, protection of environment and biodiversity — various projects and activities.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told a press conference on June 22 that the project cost of the Padma Bridge is Tk 30,193.39 crore. Till June 21, 26 thousand 732 crore 8 lakh taka has been spent.
The Padma Bridge directly connects 19 districts in the south and south-west by road. Concrete and steel structures are bridging the social and economic links between the two ends of the Padma River. However, this bridge is not just a big infrastructure, it is a ‘mega’ project implemented in Bangladesh for the first time without foreign funding. It is a bridge built over the intoxicated Padma by overcoming various technical complications. This is the end of the long wait of the people and traders of the southern and south-western districts.
