POBNEWS24, Dhaka June 5, 2022 : Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep grief over the loss of life in a fire at a BM container depot at Sitakunda in Chittagong. This information was given in a condolence message sent from the press wing of the Prime Minister on Sunday (June 5).
In his condolence message, the Prime Minister prayed for the forgiveness of the souls of the victims and conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members. He also directed to ensure necessary medical care to the injured.
The Prime Minister called upon the government as well as the party leaders and workers to come forward to control the fire quickly and conduct rescue operations and extend all possible assistance to the victims.
The fire broke out at BM Container Depot in Bhatiari area of Sitakunda around 9:30 pm on Saturday (June 4). According to the latest information, 30 people were killed and more than two hundred injured in the accident. The injured were admitted to Chittagong Medical and nearby hospitals.
After the incident, 15 units of the fire service went to the spot and started working to control the fire. The unit is further extended at a later time. According to the latest information, 163 personnel from 25 units of the fire service are working to control the fire. Besides, fire service members from Noakhali, Feni, Laxmipur, Comilla and surrounding districts are also working to control the fire.
