POBNEWS24, Dhaka Jan 21, 2025 : Republican leader Donald Trump made history by being sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. His swearing-in ceremony was held at the Capitol Rotunda in Washington, DC, on Monday (January 20) at 12 noon local time (11:00 pm Bangladesh time).
Trump was sworn in by the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court on this day. Before that, J.D. Vance was sworn in as Vice President.
This is the first time since the 1890s that a president has been sworn in for a second term after losing an election.
At the swearing-in ceremony, Trump said, “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and to the best of my ability preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
The oath of office for the President of the United States is set out in the first clause of Article II of the Constitution. However, the oaths of office for other federal officers, including the Vice President, are not mentioned in the Constitution. They are determined by law enacted by Congress.
Several top figures from the tech world were present at Trump’s inauguration, including Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg.
Outgoing President Joe Biden was also present at the event, although Trump was not at Biden’s inauguration in 2020.
Among the guests were all living former US presidents, including Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama.
