POBNEWS24, Dhaka, May 1, 2022 : There is no space on the train. I have to celebrate Eid with my family. So the passengers are sitting on the roof at the risk of their lives. Taken from Joydevpur Junction in Gazipur yesterday. People are leaving Dhaka with joy to celebrate Eid. Buses, trains, launches, trucks, pickups and motorbikes are running as fast as they can on their way home. The fatigue of the journey seems to be very little in front of the joy of going home. Loved ones that are looking forward to the path for them.
This Eid traffic is relatively normal on the highway. There was no big tangle. There is no overflowing crowd on the bus. However, there is a lot of pressure on motorcycles on highways and ferries. The launch ride is also almost a normal image. No train with extra passengers left from Dhaka. All the trains except two or three have left Kamalapur on time.
Smooth Eid journey by bus
The capital’s three largest long-distance bus terminals, Gabtali, Mohakhali and Sayedabad, were open as usual on Saturday. No additional passenger pressure was observed. Only a few transports in the north have deviated from the schedule. A bus of Gaibandha-bound Nabil Paribahan and a Thakurgaon-bound Shyamoli Paribahan bus could not reach Gabtali on time and the passengers of those two buses had to travel an hour and a half late.
At Gabtali, Sayedabad and Mohakhali bus terminals, passengers who bought advance tickets for Eid are traveling without any hassle. According to the counter of Eagle Paribahan from Gabtoli to Jessore and Khulna, they run extra trips every year before Eid, but this time it did not happen.
Adequate security was seen at every terminal yesterday. On the same day, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader visited Mohakhali Bus Terminal. Members of the law-enforcement forces are deployed in white uniforms at the terminals to prevent pickpockets and ignorant parties.
Occupying the roof of the train at Joydebpur
Almost all the trains from Kamalapur railway station in the capital left on time yesterday. Only the Nilesagar and Dhumketu Express left a little late. No one was allowed to enter the platform of Kamalapur railway station without a ticket. As a result, there was no crowd at the station. But the situation at the airport station was different. There is a huge crowd and the inside of the train is crowded.
The picture of the railway changed completely at Joydevpur in Gazipur. Even though no one has come on the roof of the train from Dhaka till now, the passengers are occupied here. There were so many passengers in the compartments that there was no place to store sesame seeds. Two and a half to three thousand people were waiting at Joydebpur station for the Rajshahi-bound Silk City train yesterday. But from here there are 25 to 30 seats allocated for this train.
Kamalapur station manager Mohammad Masud Sarwar told Kaler Kanth, “The situation in Joydebpur is difficult to handle. The station there is unrestricted. We are able to control Kamalapur and airport stations. ‘
Relatively normal launch
The launch terminal at Dhaka Sadarghat was almost empty till the afternoon despite some passenger pressure in the morning. However, since evening, the passenger pressure at the wharf increases. Compared to other times, this time there was not much pressure on the launch during the Eid journey. Many launches were seen leaving the wharf late as there were no passengers till yesterday afternoon.
BIWTA Joint Director (Acting) Selim Reza said 125 launches left Sadarghat on Friday. No launch was allowed to leave after 12 midnight. Some launches have left Sadarghat with passengers for various destinations since 8 am yesterday.
Special wharf in Shimulia for motorcycles
To avoid chaos at Shimulia Ghat in Munshiganj, a ghat has been allotted for motorcycle crossing only. Hundreds of motorbikes have been waiting for the crossing since morning. Till 2 pm, 11 ferries left the ferry terminal number 1 with only motorcycles. Even after this, the tangle of motorcycles did not decrease. However, due to fear of Kalbaishakhi, the launch movement from Shimulia Ghat to Majhikandi and Banglabazar routes of Jajira in Shariatpur was temporarily suspended from 6 pm. Shimulia river port official said. Shahadat Hossain said the decision was taken as there was warning number 2 for Mawa river port and the river also became a bit rough. It is learned that the ferry service was still going on.
