POBNEWS24, Desk report Dhaka Mar 17, 2025 : The US is deeply concerned about the situation in Bangladesh, said the country’s intelligence chief Tulsi Gabbard. Tulsi Gabbard, who is visiting New Delhi to attend a conference of global intelligence chiefs, told NDTV World on Monday (March 17). She expressed this concern in her comments on the persecution of religious minorities in Bangladesh.

In an exclusive interview with NDTV World, US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said, ‘The long-standing and unfortunate persecution, killings and other abuses against Hindus, Buddhists, Christians and other religious minorities is a major area of concern for the US government, President Trump and his administration.’
Tulsi Gabbard said that Donald Trump’s new cabinet has started discussions with the interim government of Bangladesh. Regarding the rise of ‘Islamic extremism and terrorist elements’ in Bangladesh, she said, ‘Discussions between President Trump’s new cabinet and the Bangladesh government are just beginning; but it remains a major area of concern.’
In her remarks, Tulsi Gabbard also spoke about the ideology of an ‘Islamic caliphate’. She also spoke about how extremist elements and terrorist groups work to create such a situation globally. Tulsi Gabbard said, ‘The threat of Islamist terrorists and the global activities of various terrorist groups are driven by the same ideology and goal. That ideology and goal is to rule through an Islamist caliphate. This, of course, affects people of any religion other than those acceptable to them. They choose to implement this through terrorism and other violent means.’
Tulsi Gabbard said that President Donald Trump is committed to identifying and defeating such ideology and eliminating what she calls ‘radical Islamist terrorism.’
“President Trump is committed to identifying the ideology that creates Islamist terrorism and working to defeat it and its ability to terrorize people,” said Tulsi Gabbard.
