POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Aug 3, 2024 :  After the Prime Minister’s visit to China, the quota reform movement of Bangladeshi students took the form of sabotage. Whether this movement is the creation of students and BNP-Jamaat alone or whether there is an outside hand behind it is being heavily debated in various quarters. Although the United States has not taken any strict action against Bangladesh regarding this incident, it is assumed that they are preparing.

Although the Indian media has published negative news about Bangladesh, the Indian government has stood by Bangladesh. Indian High Commissioner posted in Bangladesh met the Prime Minister and conveyed India’s support. However, both India and the US are not ruling out outside interference in the incident. Rather feel the need to look into it further.

Diplomatic sources say huge  money have been spent on the violent quota movement in Bangladesh. How this money went to BNP-Jamaat, camp or students needs to be investigated in depth. Various circles are also demanding to look into whether China has any relation with it.

It should be noted that none of the strategic investments that China wanted to make in Bangladesh during the Prime Minister’s visit to China were implemented. says China’s interest in the Teesta Master Plan in particular is well known. But India also proposed a Teesta Master Plan as opposed to China’s proposal. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has publicly stated that she is interested in India’s proposal among the two countries’ proposals. Because Teesta River flows through Bangladesh and India. So if India offers that offer we will give right. Also, China was choosing to invest in Bangladesh in areas that would make India uncomfortable and create tension in Bangladesh-India relations. Bangladesh did not step into that trap. And this is why China’s hidden role in the quota reform movement?

Note that the US has not yet officially said anything. However, the United States is very sensitive to the situation in Bangladesh. Again and again they say, all parties should be calm. They are talking about non-use of force, fair investigation. All in all, the US attitude is very straightforward and clear.

Various sources say that China has followed a dual policy in different countries of the world. The biggest example is Myanmar. In Myanmar, on the one hand, they are supporting the Arakan rebels, collecting their weapons, and on the other hand, they are maintaining good relations with the government. Such dual policy is followed by China in many countries. China’s political interest in the region has grown steadily. And for this reason, some diplomats think that it is necessary to investigate whether China has taken a strategy of putting pressure on the government by accelerating the quota reform movement and destroying it.

The quota movement has the potential for multi-dimensional gains for China. Firstly, Bangladesh has suffered huge economic losses. Bangladesh needs urgent cash assistance to meet this loss. Which China can provide. Secondly, as a result of this, the diplomatic ‘bargaining power’ in Bangladesh will be greatly reduced due to political unrest. This may increase dependence on China. Thirdly, this movement is trying to incite anti-India sentiment. Which will be profitable for China. All in all, the role of China in the violence in Bangladesh is now being researched.
