POBNEWS24, Dhaka Nov 6, 2021 :The movement of goods vehicles has affected the vegetable market. Almost all types of vegetables were sold in different raw markets of the capital on Friday at a higher price of Tk 10 to 15 per kg.

Although the movement of goods has been stopped since yesterday morning. On Thursday night, wholesalers said that enough vehicles carrying vegetables and other raw materials arrived at various raw markets in the capital.

Store owners and vegetable sellers say that truck owners have also increased fares due to the increase in diesel prices. As a result, transportation costs have increased. Besides, the number of trucks transporting goods in the capital has come down on Thursday night due to the announcement of stoppage of traffic. The price of vegetables has gone up due to these two reasons.

Visiting the capital’s Rayerbazar, Mohammadpur’s Town Hall and Karwan Bazar yesterday, it was seen that Dhandas, Karla, Patol and Barbati were being sold at Tk 60 per kg. A day ago, on Thursday, the price of vegetables was 65 to 70 rupees per kg. Besides, long and round (green) eggplants have been found to be sold at Rs 60 per kg. Round eggplant costs more. It is being sold at 120 rupees per kg. Earlier the price of Kachumukhi was 35-40 rupees per kg, now it is being sold at 50 rupees.

Medium-sized pumpkins were seen being sold at Rs 50 each in the town hall raw market yesterday morning. In the afternoon, the seller Sujan Mia raised the price of this size to Rs 80. He said there is no guarantee whether the product will arrive at night or not. So the price of everything has gone up a bit. Sweet pumpkins are sold at Rs 40 per kg in his shop. He sells a small piece of sweet pumpkin cut in small size for 30 rupees.

Caravan market vegetable seller said. Zakir Hossain sold radish at Tk 50 per kg, green chillies at Tk 120 and beans at Tk 120 yesterday afternoon. He said the prices are the same as before, adding that the prices of vegetables have not gone up in the market yet. Because, the vegetable truck came to the market on Thursday night. However, some sellers are selling at a slightly higher price.

Multiple traders said they had to sell goods at higher prices due to rising transport costs. Jasim Uddin, a seller of Neyamatpur Traders, an egg store in Tejgaon , told Prothom Alo that the fare for a three-ton truck from Kishoreganj was Tk 5,500. But on Thursday he had to pay 8,500 rupees for the truck.

Mokhlesur Rahman, a wholesale egg seller at Mohammadpur Town Hall, said, ‘I bought 100 eggs for Tk 720 on Thursday. Today (yesterday) I bought it for 750 rupees. I am selling a dozen eggs at 115 rupees in wholesale.

Although the prices of farm eggs have gone up, the prices of broiler chickens and sonalika (cock) chickens have remained unchanged. Broiler chickens were sold at Tk 165 per kg and Sonalika chickens at Tk 320 at Town Hall and Karwan Kajar yesterday. Anwar Hossain, owner of New Foreign Chicken House at Town Hall , told Prothom Alo that the chickens were brought on Thursday night. Whether it can be brought tonight (yesterday) is not yet certain. If not brought, the price will go up.

Iqbal Hasan, a private employee , told Prothom Alo that the prices of everything in the market were increasing. This time the price of vegetables also went up suddenly. During this difficult time, the pressure of running the family increased.
