POBNEWS24, Desk report Dhaka Mar 20, 2026 : Vikram K. Doraiswami has been appointed as India’s next ambassador to China. He was appointed to the post on Thursday, a press release published on the website of the Ministry of External Affairs of India said.
It said that Doraiswami, a 1992 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, is currently serving as the Indian High Commissioner to the UK. He will join his new post very soon.
Before his appointment in the UK, he was the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh.
Doraiswami was born into a Tamil military family. His father was an air force officer who fought in the Bangladesh Liberation War, a country where Doraiswami eventually became the High Commissioner. He worked as a journalist for a year while appearing for the civil services examination.
He joined the Indian Foreign Service as part of the 1992 batch. During his diplomatic career, he was posted to the Permanent Mission to the United Nations, was Consul General in Johannesburg and Head of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation and North American Division in the Ministry of External Affairs. . He served as the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh and as India’s Ambassador to South Korea and Uzbekistan. He was also attached to the Prime Minister’s Office during the tenure of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and was the Private Secretary to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
