POBNEWS24, Dhaka June 15, 2022 : Comilla City Corporation election has started on Wednesday amidst unknown fears. For the third time after becoming a city corporation, the people of Comilla are standing in the voting line to elect the people’s representative of their choice. Expect a festive election from start to finish.
Election analysts see the election as a major test for two-time mayor Monirul Haque Sakkur, as well as a “litmus test” for the new election commission headed by Kazi Habibul Awal.
EC officials said voting began at 105 centers in the city on Wednesday (June 15th) at 8am, and would continue until 4pm. This time voting is being taken in all the centers by EVM. And this is the first time CCTV cameras are available in all centers and polling booths.
Returning Officer. Shahedunnabi Chowdhury said, we are determined to cast a fair vote. Action has been taken by the police and administration as per the circular. Each center has adequate police, Ansar, executive magistrate. Deputy commissioners, police officers are all alert. Besides, checkposts have been set up at various points including the entrance of the city. So that no kind of unpleasant incident happens. I am hopeful, a good selection will be able to gift. A free and fair election will be held. No one will be exempted if there is any irregularity.
Comilla Superintendent of Police. Farooq Ahmed said that 3,608 members of law enforcement are engaged in the city elections. There are 65 checkposts, 105 mobile teams, 12 platoon BGB, 30 RAB teams, more than 50 executive magistrates and 9 judicial magistrates.
Five candidates are contesting for the post of mayor in Comilla city election. There are 36 reserved councilor candidates and 107 candidates in the general ward. According to the Election Commission, 2 lakh 29 thousand 920 voters in 26 wards of Comilla city. There are 640 booths in 105 polling stations.
