POBNEWS24, Dhaka Jun 22, 2021 : Bangladesh is not sending hilsa because India is not vaccinating. “We are not so low-minded,” said Bangladesh foreign Minister Abdul Momen.
He made the remarks in response to a question from reporters at the Foreign Ministry on today Tuesday (June 22nd).
According to the report in Kolkata’s a Bengali newspaper, about 1.6 million people in Bangladesh are sitting with the first dose of Indian corona antidote. Time has passed. India says it is not possible to send another dose of the vaccine at this time.
Bangladesh has long had a ban on hilsa exports to India. Despite this, the present government had given clearance for the export of 2,000 tonnes of hilsa to West Bengal during Jamaishthi ( A festival of Hinduism) last year. But this year Padma Hilsa did not fall in West Bengal.
However, citing Indian experts, the paper also wrote that it would not be fair to simplify that hilsa exports were halted because the promised vaccine had not been sent. But the relationship between the two sides has become so tense that the climate of Hilsa diplomacy is no more.
