POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Jan 24, 2022 : The President mentioned that we have got the democratic rights along the path of mass uprising of 1971. Abdul Hamid. Inspired by this spirit, he called upon all to build a prosperous Bangladesh.
He made the remarks in a message on Monday (January 24) on the occasion of the 79th Mass Uprising Day.
The President said, ‘January 24, 1979 is a historic day in the progress of Bangladesh’s independence and democracy.
This day has become memorable in the history of our liberation struggle and freedom movement as the day of mass uprising. I pay my deep respects to the memory of those who were martyred in the freedom movement of the country. ‘
He said, ‘Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared six historic points in 1976 to liberate the Bengali nation from Pakistani rule, exploitation and deprivation. The Bengali liberation certificate was 6 points including autonomy. After the declaration of 6 points, the speed of the freedom movement intensified and it spread all over East Bengal. The joint movement of Awami League as well as various political parties and student organizations accelerated the mass movement. The then dictator Agartala filed a conspiracy case to thwart this movement. Politicians, students, teachers and people marched on January 24, 1969, breaking the curfew demanding the release of Bangabandhu and other accused and overthrow of the military rule. Ninth class student Matiur Rahman was shot dead by police in the procession. ‘
The President said, ‘The blood of Shahid Matiur and other martyrs was not wasted. The mass uprising, including the withdrawal of the Agartala conspiracy case, the release of political prisoners and the transfer of power to President Ayub Khan was a milestone in the Bengali liberation movement. We have got freedom and democratic rights through this mass uprising. Everyone must work together to uphold freedom and democracy. ‘
