By Mir Afroz Zaman, POBNEWS24, Dhaka, June 20, 2023 : Referring to India as a time-tested friend, Bangladesh Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said that the Prime Minister of India visited the United States. It has nothing to do with the politics of Bangladesh.

Many issues in the world today are war, inflation, energy crisis. We have not discussed with India whether there will be any talk about Bangladesh here, nor have we sent any proposal to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convince Biden.

He said these things at a discussion meeting at ISKCON Swamibagh Ashram on the occasion of Jagannath Dev’s Rath Yatra Mahotsav at Swamibagh in the capital on Tuesday (June 20) afternoon.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that the United States is going to apply the visa policy to make the elections free and fair in Bangladesh and said that as a democratic country, whether the Prime Minister of India has anything to do is a personal matter from his point of view. India is not known to have questioned or interfered with any elections in Bangladesh.

Mentioning that the upcoming national parliament elections will be held according to the country’s constitution, Quader said that the elections will be held according to the country’s constitution and not on the advice of any outside force. We are not going to the election considering anyone’s visa policy, restrictions. Our eyes are on the constitution, on the people of the country.

Awami League General Secretary said, there are some countries whose own democracy is not free of defects, the question is – will they teach democracy?

He said that there are some circles in Bangladesh, for them free and fair elections means when Awami League is defeated. Elections are fair if Awami League is defeated – this is the wish of some parties including BNP.

Obaidul Quader said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has conveyed greetings and best wishes to the followers of Sanatan religion on the occasion of Jagannath Dev’s Rath Yatra. The Prime Minister said that Awami League stood by the people of Sanatan religion in difficult times, hardships and disasters and will continue to do so in the future.

At this time, Awami League General Secretary addressed the traditional religious people and said, “You should never think of yourself as a minority.” Like other religions you are also first class citizens of the country.

Awami League organizing secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, executive committee member Nirmal Chatterjee, director of Indira Gandhi Cultural Center in Bangladesh Mrinmoy Chakraborty and Mahanagar Puja celebration committee president Monindra Kumar Nath also spoke in the discussion meeting.

ISKCON Bangladesh General Secretary Shri Charu Chandra Das Brahmachari presided over the discussion meeting. Later a colorful chariot procession was taken out.
