POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Aug 3, 2021: Bangladesh Nationalist Party(BNP) a major political party in Bangladesh, had cordial relationship with the government of former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Agreement on rail and road between India and Bangladesh was signed during the tenure of Khaleda Zia.
It was later inaugurated by then Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. That is why the BNP has a very good relationship with the BJP-led government.
India is a democratic country, they believe in democracy, so the government is formed through elections there. India has always been by the side of BNP in Bangladesh. He said we should follow true example of democracy from India.
Youth leader Syed Abubakar Siddique (Shaju), a member of the central committee of Bangladesh’s main opposition BNP, hopes that India will continue to stand by us also in the future. The popularity of young leadership is now growing in the politics of Bangladesh.
50 years of independence are passing. A lot has changed during this time.
Young people are the driving force of Bangladesh. One such young politician is Syed Abubakar Siddiqui (Shaju).
SA Khaleq is a very popular leader in Mirpur, Dhaka. His son Saju. He was an elected member of parliament of BNP at multiple times. Saju is the second of his two sons. Educated in America.
He said this in an interview with POBNEWS24 on today (Tuesday).
He said the Awami League government of Bangladesh is in power by killing democracy and illegally holding mock elections. The role of the opposition is important in democratic country. There is no alternative to multi-party democracy.
He said BNP’s founder Ziaur Rahman came to power in Bangladesh after the death of Sheikh Mujib in 1975. He introduced multi-party democracy in Bangladesh. On 30 May 1981, Ziaur Rahman was killed in an army coup at the Chittagong Circuit House.
Later, the military ruler Hussein Muhammad Ershad came to power.
Ershad was in power for 9 years. When Begum Khaleda Zia started an anti-Ershad movement, Ershad was forced to resign in December 1990.
Democracy returned to Bangladesh in 1991. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) came to power as the sole majority party in the general election. Since then, the BNP has been in power three times in a row.
He said the formation of OIC and SAARC with the aim of establishing brotherhood, not enmity with any country, created animosity between Ziaur Rahman and some countries. But I think the ILO and the OIC should play a more important role.
The BNP leader said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is an uncompromising leader. This government came to power by force. By killing democracy, filing false cases against our leaders and workers have kept a big party like BNP out of power through inflicting torture on the opposition activists.
75 cases were filed in my name, numerous cases in the name of the leaders and workers of my area. No one can stay in the area for fear of police. Nevertheless, I am working to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the people of my area and participating in social programmes.
Syed Abubakar Siddique Shaju said, it is doubtful whether the Awami League government will get 30 seats if the elections are held now in impartial manner. If people’s right to vote is returned, the BNP will return to power as a single majority party.
Noting that there is no lack of unity among the grassroots level leaders and workers of BNP, Saju said the party is still paying compensation for the mistake it made by not participating in general elections in 2014, and forming the government in 2001-2006 by making an alliance with a pro-Pakistani party.
However, I think the BNP boycotted the elections as there were doubts about its impartiality.
He said the BNP has always been against terrorism and militancy. Capturing the properties of minorities all over the country, vandalizing idols and burning temples have all happened during the tenure of Awami League and are still going on. The BNP believes in peace.
No one has the right to push garment workers, labourers and poor people to their deaths. Syed Abubakar Siddique (Shaju), a young politician from Bangladesh, commented that the harassment of Dhaka-bound employees, the extra money spent, and the deaths in truck accidents are nothing but a joke of lockdown.
Regarding the recent announcement of opening of industrial factories, he said that more than half a crore workers are coming to Dhaka on foot for hundreds of miles, packed in small vehicles and paying ten to fifteen times more the fare. I would call it the incompetent lack of coordination of the government.
He said Bangladesh has trade ties with China as a result of free market economy. The initiative was taken by martyred President Ziaur Rahman. Our trade inequality with India should be handled with liberal attitude.
The youth leader, who is the son of a prominent BNP leader in Mirpur area of the capital, said that by not allowing three-time successful former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia to go abroad for better treatment was the ultimate failure of the Awami League.
