POBNEWS24, Dhaka Sep 9, 2022 : After the Queen’s coffin arrives in London, she will lie in state at Westminster Hall for about four days before the funeral. The public can walk past and pay their respects. The Grand Hall is the oldest part of the Palace of Westminster, the seat of British government.
The last member of the British royal family whose coffin was laid to rest in the Grand Hall was the late Queen Mother.
More than 200,000 people lined up to see his coffin.
The Queen’s coffin will be placed on a raised platform known as the ‘catafalque’ under the ancient wooden roof of the 11th-century Grand Hall. Each corner of the platform will be guarded by soldiers from units serving the royal family.
The Queen’s coffin will be carried in slow procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall. The military parade will continue with that. Members of the royal family will be in the procession.
Common people will also get a chance to watch the procession as it passes through various streets. Big screens may be installed in London’s Royal Parks to broadcast the events. The Queen’s coffin will be draped in the royal flag. Upon arrival at Westminster Hall, the crown, scepter and orb (round symbol) will be placed on the coffin.
A short prayer will be held after placing the coffin inside the hall. After that the public will be allowed to enter.
Queen’s funeral when, when?
The Queen’s state funeral is expected to take place at Westminster Abbey in less than two weeks. The exact date will be confirmed by Buckingham Palace authorities.
Abbey Hall is the historic church where the kings and queens of the United Kingdom are crowned and enthroned. Again, the coronation and wedding ceremony of the queen took place there.
A royal funeral has not been held in the Abbey since the 18th century. However, in 2002, the funeral of the Queen’s mother was held there.
Heads of state and government from around the world will attend the funeral to join members of the royal family. The Queen’s coffin will be carried from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey in a navy military schooner at the start of the funeral day.
