POBNEWS24, Dhaka Sept 15,2024 : After Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the country for the past one month, there have been comments and statements blaming India for all the misfortunes of the country. On September 13, the protest reached the doorstep of the Indian Embassy in Dhaka’s Baridhara diplomatic area. Police and army personnel struggled to stop the protest of hundreds of people demanding an end to border killings. The protestors changed the name of the embassy road after the girl who was killed by BSF firing on the border, Felani Khatun, and put up a board with the words – ‘Shaheed Felani Road’.

Troops were also deployed outside the Indian embassy in Baridhara after intelligence reports that Friday’s protest could lead to unrest. Ahmed Ishaq, coordinator of the anti-quota student movement, led the protest. He said, “Bangladeshis are being killed at the border due to the knee-jerk foreign policy of the previous Awami League government. We need to get out of knee-jerk foreign policy.” When the protesters were stopped by the police, slogans were raised, ‘Delhi or Dhaka? Dhaka Dhaka!

On this day again, a huge rally was held at Shahbagh in Dhaka called by various religious minority organizations. Minority leaders there complain that they are being attacked and tortured almost every day outside Dhaka. The officials of the government are only listening to the slogans. A new symptom has started in the past week, picking up a minority of teenagers. At least 7 such incidents happened one after the other. Even after receiving a complaint, the police are not active. Dhaka practically came to a standstill from noon on this day in the gathering at Shahbagh.

Complaints of police activity in various areas in the name of students have been coming for a month. A few incidents happened in the tourist city of Cox’s Bazar last Wednesday night. Here several women have been gang-raped for not wearing ‘modest clothes’. It has been alleged that fifty people are doing this under the leadership of the coordinator of the student movement in the area. In a video on social media, a girl wearing a white churidar was first surrounded and harassed. After that he is being made to stand by the ears in front of everyone on the beach. It has been alleged that this work was done under the leadership of the coordinator with a baton. Another video showed a woman sitting alone leaving the beach after being harassed with questions.

In this situation, a high-ranking American delegation is reaching Dhaka on Saturday after holding talks with the Narendra  Modi government in Delhi. The team includes officials from the Joe Biden administration in charge of finance and security in South Asia. They held a meeting with Yunus government on September 15 (Sunday). Political parties are now looking at what direction America gives to the government.
