POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Aug 3 2022 : The government has brought back Kazi Anarkali, Deputy Chief of Mission of Bangladesh Embassy in Jakarta. He was reportedly recalled at the request of the Indonesian government following allegations of possession of the banned drug marijuana at his home.
According to foreign ministry sources, Indonesian drug control authorities raided Kazi Anarkali’s residence. At that time, he was accused of getting the banned drug marijuana at his house.
Later he was brought back to Dhaka at the request of the Indonesian government.
A raid was conducted at Kazi Anarkali’s residence on June 5 this year. However, Kazi Anarkali used to share an apartment with a Nigerian national. Dhaka has not yet been informed by Jakarta whether he was a Nigerian national who kept the drugs.
According to the Vienna Convention, law enforcement cannot raid a diplomat’s residence. However, the Indonesian drug control authorities raided Kazi Anarkali’s residence without complying with the rules. He was later recalled from Indonesia. Bangladesh has asked Indonesia for a detailed explanation on the matter. However, there is still no response from Indonesia.
Earlier in 2017, Kazi Anarkali was brought back from the US for missing domestic workers.
