POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Jan18, 2025 : The interim government’s attention to eliminating discrimination is not visible and unless economic inequality is eliminated, political reform will not be sustainable. In addition, the decision to impose increased VAT and taxes is against the spirit of anti-discrimination, said General Secretary Saiful Haque at the meeting of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Workers Party.
At the meeting of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Workers Party at Segunbagicha on Saturday morning, the party’s General Secretary Saiful Haque said that the interim government’s attention is not visible to eliminating discrimination in the state and society. The government is not as interested in eliminating the boundless inequality in society as it is in political reform. However, if economic and political inequality cannot be eliminated, political reform will not be of much use, and political reform will not be sustainable. He said that first of all, it is necessary to uproot the corrupt mafia’s economy.
Saiful Haque said, ‘Even after five months, the interim government is not able to properly utilize the unprecedented huge support of political parties and the people. They are not able to maintain the great trust of the people in them. They are also not able to prioritize the work.’
He said, ‘The market situation is still very unstable. The government is not able to control the market in any way. Anxiety and worry about livelihoods continue.’
Saiful Haque said, ‘The decision to impose VAT and taxes on hundreds of products in an unusual way is tantamount to imposing danger on people who are burning in the market. When people are disoriented due to high inflation, this step will further exacerbate the suffering of the suffering people. On the one hand, these steps will further jeopardize the food security of the poor and low-income people, and on the other hand, if the price of gas used in industry increases, the cost of production of products will increase, and investors will be discouraged.’
He said, ‘People cannot be punished for the government’s inefficiency and failure. He called on the government to move away from the suicidal decision of increasing VAT and taxes on daily-use products taken on the advice of the IMF. He said, these recent steps of the Yunus government are against the spirit of the anti-discrimination mass uprising. He called for the withdrawal of these decisions taken in a bureaucratic manner.’
The meeting, chaired by the party’s general secretary Saiful Haque, was addressed by party central members Bhanishikha Jamali, Akbar Khan, Abu Hasan Tipu, Ansar Ali Dulal, Mir Mofazzal Hossain Mostaq, Shahidul Alam Nannu, Rashida Begum, Sajeeb Sarkar Ratan, Firoz Ahmed, Saiful Islam, Mir Rezaul Alam, Dr. Monowar Hossain, Ayub Ali, Shahin Alam, among others.
At the beginning of the meeting, deep condolences were expressed on the deaths of former members of the party’s central committee, Mokhlesur Rahman, Dr. Khandaker Mosleuddin, and CPB’s Pakhtun president, Shahidullah Chowdhury, and tributes were paid to their memory.
