POBNEWS24,  Desk report Dhaka, May 25, 2026 : At least 15 people were killed and at least 8 others were injured when a truck loaded with rods overturned in Kalihati on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Bangladesh.
The accident took place in the Saratail area of ​​Kalihati upazila on the eastern side of Jamuna Bridge early Monday. Officer-in-charge of Jamuna Bridge East Police Station Fuad Rohani confirmed the casualties.
Of the 15 dead, 6 were immediately identified. They are Md., son of Sakim Mia of Manda upazila in Naogaon. Sagar Mia (20), Rabiul Islam (25), son of Shahidul Islam of the same area, Sarikul (25), son of Saidul of Neyamatpur upazila, Ismail Hossain (19), son of Altaf Hossain of Tanor upazila of Rajshahi, Nazrul (60) of Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj and Mamun (45) of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila.
The injured are Babu, son of Mujibar of Manda upazila of Naogaon, Abdul Rahman, son of Abdul Rahim of the same upazila, Alamgir, son of Safed Ali, Siddiq Ali, son of Chorhab Ali, Khorshed, son of the deceased Saheb Ali, Shahidul, son of Samej, Nayan Biswas, son of the deceased Mannan of Natore district and Tuhin, son of Nazrul.
Police said that a truck bound for North Bengal leaving Dhaka reached the Saratail area on the eastern outskirts of Jamuna Bridge at around 5 am when the driver lost control. The truck overturned on the road, killing 15 people on the spot. The injured have been rescued and admitted to Tangail General Hospital. Police, fire service and local people are carrying out rescue operations. Work is underway to identify the deceased. Tangail General Hospital Deputy Director Dr. Sadiqur Rahman said that the bodies of 15 people have been brought to the hospital. In addition, 6 more people were brought in a life-threatening condition. They are currently admitted. Their condition is critical.
