POBNEWS24, Dhaka July 11, 2024 : Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said it seems that the quota protesters are crossing the limits by announcing to continue their movement.
He said this in replying to a query from the journalists at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Thursday.
The minister said the students took to the streets as they thought the quota system in the government jobs will be reinstated following a court order in this regard.
“We told the security forces, especially police, we will listen their (students) demand but there is a limit to hear things and they seem to crossing it,” the minister said.
The protesting students are doing the same work for the last few days and amid this, the Chief Justice clearly said the High Court’s instruction is stayed, he said. “So, the directive of the High Court (reinstating quota) is not in effect.”
“I think students should understand when there is no verdict, why do they protest,” he said, adding that their movement, however, causes sufferings to people, including their relatives.
The minister also said the matter related to the quota will be settled through court.
Students have been protesting in the capital and different parts of the country for several days to demand the reformation of the quota system in the government jobs.
