POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Aug 7, 2024 : 24 hours after Sheikh Hasina fled Dhaka and reached India, her final destination is still uncertain. Indian media said she is now looking for other options as the UK and US doors are closed for the time being.
Indian media The Hindu reported that the former prime minister has already failed to seek political asylum in the UK. As a result, she is now thinking of seeking asylum in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Finland.
However, Sheikh Hasina did not seek shelter anywhere, said her son Sajib Wazed Joy. He said this to NDTV. Joy also said, I am in Washington, aunt in London, sister in Delhi. We don’t know yet – she may be traveling to these places.
The Times of India reported that Hasina may travel to countries where family members reside, such as the US, UK, Finland and India.
On Tuesday, CNN’s affiliate News 18 quoted sources from the opposition in Bangladesh as saying that the United States had canceled Hasina’s visa. However, the United States has not yet commented on the authenticity of this claim.
It was learned on Tuesday that Sheikh Hasina will stay in India for a few more days. However, it is not known how long New Delhi will allow him to stay.
It is to be noted that Awami League President Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country in a massive mass movement, ending 15 and a half years of rule. She left the country around 2.30 pm on Monday (August 5). Sheikh Hasina had to step down amid clashes across the country and the death of over 300 people after the student movement that started 36 days ago to demand quota reforms in government jobs turned into a movement to topple the government.
