POBNEWS24, Desk report, Sept 12, 2024 : India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has been questioned about sending Bangladesh’s former prime minister Sheikh Hasina back to the country (extradition). In response, he said that they are working with the current government of Bangladesh. They do this through diplomatic channels.
Jaishankar said this in response to a question made at a joint press conference in Berlin, Germany last Tuesday local time. The joint press conference was held after a meeting with German Foreign Minister Annalena Bierbock.
At the press conference, a journalist asked about the repatriation of Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who had taken refuge in India. He said, the authorities of Bangladesh are saying that they will seek the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Will India consider such a request?
Jaishankar said, ‘You know, the government has changed in Bangladesh. We are obviously working with this government. We do this through diplomatic channels, not on the basis of media reports.’
The Awami League government collapsed on August 5 in a student uprising. Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister and left the country for India. He is now staying in India.
