POBNEWS24, Dhaka Apr 23, 2021 : The 211th session of UNESCO’s Virtual Executive Board ended on April 21 at its Paris headquarters. Representatives of the world’s nations pledged to work together to tackle the global epidemic. Kobi Tarik Sujat, a prominent cultural figure, represented Bangladesh at the UNESCO Executive Board meeting.
In his speech, Bangladesh Representative Tarik Sujat reiterated Bangladesh’s strong and unwavering confidence in UNESCO’s vision and mission as well as the UN’s efforts to establish world peace. Bangladesh expressed satisfaction over the nomination of Ms. Andre Azul, Director General of UNESCO, for the second term. He also praised the quick and effective steps taken by the government to tackle the global crisis.
Tarik Sujat highlighted the various steps taken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to tackle Kovid-19 in Bangladesh. He mentioned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is doing her best to implement the SDGs. Mr. Sujat said that apart from 21 incentive packages of 4.34% of GDP or US ১৪ 14.28 billion, the Bangladesh government has intensified social security activities for the backward people including women, the extremely poor and the minority ethnic groups. He mentioned various digital programs including the government’s extensive distance learning program to address the crisis in the education sector.
The Bangladesh Representative called for UNESCO’s Medium Term (2022-2029) Strategic Program to take effective steps to protect the balance of climate change and the environment. Earlier, session of UNESCO started on 13 April 2021.
