POBNEWS24,Dhaka, Feb 15, 2025 :  Attorney General Advocate Md. Asaduzzaman has commented that the Peelkhana massacre was part of an international conspiracy to keep the Awami League in power to establish the occupation of the hegemonic power over Bangladesh. He said, “This was not a rebellion, it was a planned murder. Through this, the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh were endangered and the country was put on the verge of quicksand.”

Md. Asaduzzaman said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the shadow parliament organized on the BDR massacre at the FDC in the capital on Saturday. Debate for Democracy Chairman Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron presided over the program.

The Attorney General said, “A state extended its hand of friendship and established a reign of loot in Bangladesh. That state has stood up to the people of Bangladesh by harboring people involved in murder and disappearance in violation of international law.

He said, “We have lost the sun children of the nation in the Pilkhana massacre. By losing them, the foundation of Bangladesh’s sovereignty has been hit. The fallen Awami government created anarchy by killing 57 army officers and creating a grave for Bangladesh. There are allegations that leaders and activists of Chhatra League and Jubilee League participated in the Pilkhana massacre by wearing BDR uniforms.

Many of the masterminds of the Pilkhana massacre are still at large. The Attorney General said that the process of bringing them to justice is underway.

In his speech, Debate for Democracy Chairman Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron said, “Two months after the Awami League came to power for the second time under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, a shameful massacre took place in the country’s history in Pilkhana, Dhaka. Which is a black mark in history. The murder was carried out with the aim of inflicting a severe blow on the sovereignty of the country.

The debaters of Tejgaon College won the shadow parliament titled ‘Awami League government committed BDR massacre to stay in power’ organized by Debate for Democracy, defeating the debaters of Bangladesh University. The judges of the competition were Professor Abu Muhammad Rais, Dr. SM Morshed, Barrister HM Sanjid Siddique, journalist Moniruzzaman Mission and journalist Md. Atiqur Rahman.

Meanwhile, the Dhaka Metropolitan Theatre Festival had to be postponed due to security concerns. The organizers say they have postponed the event ‘in the face of threats from a group of individuals’. Earlier, the anti-discrimination student movement in Uttara, Dhaka, stopped the Basant Utsab on Friday.

The theatre festival was scheduled to be inaugurated on Saturday afternoon at the Dhaka Mahila Samiti auditorium and the liberation war-based play ‘Payer Awaz Paa Jay’ was scheduled to be staged in the evening. 85 theater groups were supposed to stage one play each in the three stages of the festival.

Dhaka Metropolitan Theater Council convener Thandu Raihan said, “In the unexpected situation, we have been forced to temporarily postpone the Praner Natyotsav, which we have organized with tireless work and love, considering the safety of everyone.”

It is learned that some people came to the Women’s Association on Friday evening and raised objections to the festival. They also threatened to attack the festival hall.

Kamal Ahmed, member secretary of the Utsab Udjawan Parishad, said, “On Friday afternoon, the responsible officer of the Bangladesh Women’s Association told us that the Ramna police station had asked us to stop the festival over the phone. We contacted the OC of Ramna police station on behalf of the festival committee. In the evening, we met the OC in his office and informed him of the details of the festival. After discussions at the police station, when the police assured us of security, an application was submitted seeking security assistance,” he said.

However, the organizers said that after receiving the news of the police station meeting, ‘some excited people’ came and removed the festival decorations on the premises of the women’s association.

A responsible person of the women’s association said on condition of anonymity that there was a fear of an attack on the women’s association surrounding this festival. Therefore, we have informed the organizers of the situation. They have postponed the festival.
